He began making jewelry in 1967 and worked at it alongside a thirty-two year career at Exxon. His pieces are fabricated rather than cast, executed one at a time in sterling silver, 14kt, or 18kt gold, and frequently in a combination of silver and gold worked together. His designs are built around the stone rather than the stone fitted into a design. Awards attributed to him include the Linz Award at the Texas State Fair, Celebration of the Arts in Midland, Texas, and Challenge New Mexico in Santa Fe. These are regional exhibition and fair awards rather than national trade honors, and they are stated here as context on the maker rather than as a justification of price. What the piece is worth rests on the stone and the quality of the fabrication, both of which can be examined directly.

CONSTRUCTION: Hand fabricated in sterling silver with 14kt yellow gold accents. The band is worked with dense hand stamping in a repeating radiate motif and oxidized so that the recesses read dark against the raised silver. Applied 14kt gold discs are set at intervals along the band. The center stone sits in a raised shield form mount with a stamped and oxidized surround, secured by four 14kt gold tabs at the corners with a further gold accent at the apex. Adjustable to fit a 6 to 8.5 inch wrist. Measures 1.8 inches across at the widest point. Gross weight 53.93 grams.

CENTER STONE: One shield form pyrite druzy, the crystal bed showing iridescent flecking across peach, green, blue, gold, purple, and turquoise.

CONDITION: Examined under magnification and found to be in excellent condition. Stone present and secure with all gold tabs full and unlifted. Druzy crystal surface intact with no crushed or missing points. Stamping crisp throughout with oxidation intact in the recesses. Cuff holds its shape with no cracking or stress at the terminals.

REMARKS: At nearly fifty-four grams this is a substantial piece of silver, and the weight is what allows the hand stamping to be worked as densely as it is without distorting the band. The stamping itself is the passage that shows the hand: each impression is struck individually with a punch, and the pattern has to be walked around a curved surface while keeping depth and spacing even. Oxidizing the recesses and then polishing back the raised surface is what makes it legible from across a room rather than reading as texture. The gold is used sparingly and structurally, at the tabs holding the stone and as discs punctuating the band, so that it draws the eye to the druzy rather than competing with it.

CARE: Do not clean in an ultrasonic machine or with steam. Druzy is a bed of exposed crystal points and will trap residue and abrade if brushed hard. Avoid chemical silver dips entirely, which will strip the intentional oxidation from the stamping and cannot be undone without refinishing. Clean with a soft polishing cloth worked only across the raised surfaces. A cuff should be opened and closed as little as possible, since repeated flexing work hardens silver and will eventually crack it; have a jeweler adjust the fit once rather than reshaping it in wear.

Weights and measurements stated are as taken on the piece.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0690/7111/0204/files/4B7C97D8-CCCC-491C-8032-A2972259FDD2.png?v=1787159328
https://prycehouse.com/products/monroe-jackson-rainbow-pyrite-druzy-cuff-bracelet-in-sterling-silver-and-14kt-gold-signed
