Precious Metals Market Update | September 2, 2026

Gold and silver moved lower in early trading on September 2. At 12:17 a.m. GMT, spot gold traded at $4,304.01 per ounce, down 0.6% and at its lowest level since August 7. December U.S. gold futures traded at $4,350.80, down 1%. Spot silver traded at $63.60 per ounce, also down 1%. View the Reuters market report for September 2.

The latest completed monthly data from the World Gold Council shows that global gold-backed ETFs added $3 billion during July. Their collective physical holdings increased by 23 metric tons to 4,068 tons, while total assets under management reached $530 billion. Year-to-date ETF inflows through July totaled $11 billion, representing a net increase of 39 tons of gold. View the World Gold Council data.

CME Group has announced that, pending regulatory review, 24-hour, seven-day trading in its 100-ounce silver futures contract will begin September 11. The contract was introduced in February and is financially settled against the daily settlement price of the benchmark COMEX 5,000-ounce silver futures contract.
