Pre-Owned Watch Prices Moved Higher, Quietly

Pryce House The Timepiece Times

A Pryce House Pre-Owned Luxury Watch Brief · September 9, 2026

The secondary luxury-watch market advanced modestly in August. The WatchCharts Overall Market Index increased 0.4 percent, while the three largest brands by secondary-market transaction value also recorded small gains. Rolex rose 0.5 percent, Patek Philippe gained 0.3 percent and Audemars Piguet increased 0.2 percent.

Eighteen of the 28 major-brand indexes tracked in the report finished the month higher. Breguet led with a 1.2 percent increase and was the only major brand to move more than 1 percent in either direction. The broader result followed a flat July and a 0.1 percent decline in June. August therefore represented a broad but restrained advance, not a uniform repricing of every brand, collection or reference. Read the WatchCharts monthly dispatch.

The Pryce House Insight

An index can show the direction of the market, but it cannot price an individual watch. A 0.4 percent increase in the broader market does not mean that every watch became 0.4 percent more valuable. Likewise, a brand-level gain does not establish what a particular reference will sell for.

For dealers, buyers and sellers, the meaningful comparison remains the exact watch: its reference, configuration, case and bracelet condition, originality, service history, accompanying box and papers, and recent transactions involving comparable examples. A service dial, refinished case, aftermarket setting, missing bracelet links or approaching service can matter more to a transaction than a small monthly movement in a broad index.

The practical lesson is to use market indexes as context rather than price lists. Direction belongs to the market; value belongs to the individual watch.

Secondary-market indexes measure defined groups of watches and do not establish the value, authenticity, condition, liquidity or future performance of an individual timepiece. Pryce House assessments and purchase offers are transaction-specific and may require physical inspection and documentation.
