Natural Madagascar Pink Sapphire 3.06 ct and Diamond 1.30 ct Ring in 18kt White Gold, SGL Report No. 191119C-SB

ARTICLE: Lady's ring, 18kt white gold with 18kt yellow gold bezel, centering one natural, earth mined pink sapphire of Madagascar origin within a bead set diamond surround.

MOUNTING: Fabricated in 18kt white gold. Center stone bezel set in 18kt yellow gold, the warm bezel chosen to carry the color of the sapphire. Surround, gallery, and split shoulders bead set throughout with round brilliant cut diamonds. Suitable for sizing.

CENTER STONE: One oval cut natural pink sapphire weighing 3.06 carats, measuring 10.31 by 8.01 by 3.68 mm. Color described in the accompanying report as purplish pink. Geographic origin Madagascar.

REPORT: Accompanied by an SGL Gemstone Identification and Origin Report, report number 191119C-SB, dated November 21, 2019, signed by Bear Williams, FGA, CG and Cara Williams, FGA. The report identifies the stone as corundum, variety pink sapphire, and states the opinion that the country of origin is Madagascar. The report notes indications of thermal enhancement.

TREATMENT DISCLOSURE: This sapphire has been heat treated. Heating of corundum is a common, permanent, and stable practice within the gem trade, requires no special care, and is disclosed here in accordance with standard industry disclosure.

ACCENT STONES: Round brilliant cut natural, earth mined diamonds, bead set, total weight approximately 1.30 carats, graded approximately F to G in color and VS1 in clarity.

CONDITION: Examined under magnification. All stones present and secure at the time of examination. Bead work intact with no lifted or missing beads. Mounting sound.

REMARKS: Madagascar has been the dominant source of fine pink sapphire since the deposits at Ilakaka came into production in the late 1990s, and a documented origin opinion is what places a stone like this in that lineage. At 10.31 by 8.01 mm the oval carries a generous face-up spread for its weight, so the stone presents larger on the hand than three carats would suggest. The two tone treatment of the mounting, warm gold at the bezel against white gold everywhere else, is a deliberate choice that pushes the pink forward rather than washing it out.
