Probus was one of the significant military emperors of the late third century, taking power during a period of repeated political instability and pressure on the Roman frontiers. His short reign produced an extensive and varied coinage across portrait, military, religious and imperial types.

Historical note

Marcus Aurelius Probus ruled from AD 276 until 282. A career military commander, his reign was taken up with campaigns to stabilize Roman territory and meet threats along the frontiers. His coinage frequently pairs imperial authority with military success and traditional Roman religious imagery.
