REMARKS: A tanzanite of nearly eleven carats with color held at this depth is a scarce commodity, and the single known commercial source in the Merelani Hills of Tanzania is a finite deposit. NOTE ON TREATMENT AND CARE: Tanzanite is routinely heat treated to develop its blue to violet color. The treatment is standard throughout the trade, is permanent, and requires no special maintenance. Tanzanite is a softer stone than sapphire or diamond and possesses distinct cleavage. It should not be cleaned ultrasonically or by steam, and should be protected from sharp knocks and abrupt temperature change.
